Hey Al:
Hard drives are coming in larger sizes now. We have several 120 gig
hard drives in various Macs around the house and we even have a
couple 160's, my present iMac has a 250 gig hard drive and I know you
can even get them as large as 400 gig. There are probably even
larger ones available but I'm not aware of them.
This is just my way of saying your point is moot.

You don't need to do this. Just install OS X. Don't bother
removing the
old stuff first, and don't bother partioning the drive.
Need elbow room on the hard drive. Make sure you have at least 5
GB free space. The OS will probably take about 2 or 3 GB. Make
sure you always keep about 15% of your hard drive space free.
