Where did you get X 11? If you downloaded it it may be the wrong
version. Since you are running Tiger you can find it on the install
CD. It doesn't install automatically, you have to check it. I
installed it & I am running Tiger & I run Gimp without a problem.

Yes I downloaded it from the apple site.
I seem to have misplaced the install CD (or DVD) for
the moment.
But you missed the point. When I tried to install
the downloaded copy, the installer said that a NEWER
verison was already instlled.
I just dont know where to find that newer version that
is supposedly already installed.
Look in /Applications/Utilities for X11.app.
If you don't see it there, you'll need to install it from your OS
install CD/DDVD (meaning you'll need to locate that).
