Do I turn/power the iMac on, insert the OS 9 disk and then hold the

Don't hold the control, just hold the 'c' key.
Well, I've booted from the OS 9 CD.
Then I've gone to 'Utilities>Drive Setup.
There it only has the installation disk as a selection for
initializing, so I have no access to the hard drive.
Did I take a false step somewhere? Do I use something other than Drive
Setup in Utilities to wipe the hard drive? Or does this mean that the
hard drive is dead?
Thanks,
Donald
