The new iMac does not have firewire 800, nor does the MacBook. The PPC iMac doesn't have firewire 800 either, so it is just a loss on the MacBook vs the PowerBook 15" (which is what it essentially replaces). As for modems, Apple has done away with them going forward. If you want a modem, they sell a USB modem that the machines support. Again, the PPC iMac already lacks a modem, so there isn't a change there, but the PowerBook has a modem, so it is again a loss on the MacBook (and one that I was a little surprised to see, being that laptop users often still use dialup when traveling... I guess Apple has decided that enough don't to no longer bother with building one in any more). The other pretty big change on the MacBook is the PCMCIA slot is gone and replaced with an ExpressCard/34 slot instead.
