A good Firewire 800 drive like the LaCie d2 came with a USB 2.0,
Firewire 400 and a Firewire 800 connector all in the same box and can
connect by means of any of those to any computer be it Mac or PC.
You get what you pay for. No issue of backwards compatibility.
That's what I have--actually have 2 of them.

(800 device slows to run on 400 port, and 800 port slows to accept
a 400
device) I can't say.
