The HD in my iMac crashed, or had some other major issue, flashing between the folder with a happy Mac, and a question mark. When I moved the HD to the G4 tower (I don't think it mounted on the desktop), but the drive setup utility did see it attached, and I did a reformat of the drive, then did the OS9 universal install.

Did you do a reformat of your drive?

I did do a reformat of the drive with the universal install. I'm really confused about why it won't boot.

The only other thing I can think of is to move the iMac HD back to a different computer; if it mounts and seems to be okay, then the iMac may have an entirely different problem, perhaps the motherboard? If the other computer doesn't see the HD, then the drive may just be shot...

Have you already tried a known good HD in the iMac?
