At any rate, I wanted to start with the basics: running Disk Utility to verify/repair permissions, but I keep getting the following message after the progress bar has progressed about 1/3 of the way:

"Disk Utility has lost its connection with the Disk Management tool and cannot continue. Please quit and relaunch Disk Utility."

A number of Panther users have reported this problem after updating iTunes to 6.0.2. A suggested solution is to go to /Library/Receipts and remove all the iTunes pkg files except iTunesX.pkg and iTunesPhoneDriver.pkg .
