Please. Recently, there have been many vehement posts to the list. I, for one, have
always found Ipswitch's people to be very helpful. Sometimes, this list is faster to
the "right" answer, but that's the way support goes. Customers of one "skill-set"
utilize the list, the other "skill-set" utilizes phone support. As for my company, we
do both, and take the instructions we receive from both with a grain of salt.
Don't get angry. That shows your level of professionalism, and doesn't really move me
to join your side.

Deleting the UID files won't delete the email necessarily. The UID files are an
"index" of sorts. The actual email is stored in the MBX files. A new UID file will get
created when the users' mailbox is accessed next. There is a small risk that the MBX
file will be so corrupt that a proper UID won't be created. In that case, some mail
messages may contain two or more mail messages concatenated. Or, it could be worse I'm
sure, although I've never seen this.
It's important to note the Imail isn't the only server that utilizes MBX and UID file
combinations to make up a user's mailbox. A lot of other mail servers do (they shall
remain nameless), and it's a common practice, among those admins that know, to delete
the UID files when "unexplained" behavior occurs with a user's mail.
I've been deleting UID files since PDP-11 days. It often works. Please don't tell me
I'm old, I just started early.
It would be very nice if there were a utility to help maintain these files, on an
individual, domain, and system basis...I've never seen one though.
