I just want to thank Len,Andy,Jochen and Daniel for your help.
After speaking with Microsoft I was able to get the snapin in IIS to
reappear in the MMC console by connecting to the IIS machine from another
machine where the snapin was present. Know the SMTP snapin appears in the
original machine and I can change the port for MS smtp. I thought I would
relay this message in case any runs into the same dilemma. Thanks. Again.

Richard,
I cannot help much with the MS end, but here is an article in the
Knowledgebase that will help for IMail.
http://support.ipswitch.com/kb/IM-19990809-DM01.htm
I cannot see how IMail install would affect any permissions outside its own
directories.
