I've discovered later that there was no AV at all on that machine. Putting one and running I've seen a lot of viruses in the mailboxes. But nothing affecting the machine. I mean the virus. The only problem was that there being a worm, which started to spread (from that particular mailbox to the world), is getting a lot of traffic on the server. -----Original Message----- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]] On Behalf Of Rick Leske Sent: Wednesday, July 31, 2002 6:01 PM To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: RE: [IMail Forum] virus protection webmail hmmm.. just a thought.. if [EMAIL PROTECTED] opens the infected email, via webmessaging, will it inturn infect the email server? ~Rick Rick Leske IT Manager NSE FamHost 800-658-1676 -----Original Message----- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]]On Behalf Of Sanford Whiteman Sent: Wednesday, July 31, 2002 11:29 AM - MGMT.TV To: Marco Teelen - Systemec BV Subject: Re: [IMail Forum] virus protection webmail > The problem arises when [EMAIL PROTECTED] logs in via webmessaging > and sends a mail with attachment (virus testfile) to > [EMAIL PROTECTED] The mail to user2 will not be scanned by the > virusscanner since it will be dropped in the mailbox directly by > IMAIL amd thus receives the mail with virus. A classic problem. > Is there a way to tell IMAIL to send all e-mail always via a the > remote gateway, even local mail ? No (your question doesn't even make sense, if you think about it, since there's an explicit mail loop). The only solution is to run an IMail-integrated product: Declude, www.declude.com, and IMail Antivirus both qualify. With some tweaks, it's actually possible to run Declude *only* on Web Messaging messages, so you can keep using WebShield if you have some commitment to it; this isn't the best use of resources, though. -Sandy Please visit http://www.ipswitch.com/support/mailing-lists.html to be removed from this list.
