IMHO if you have a legal reason to archive all messages then it shouldn't be
done at the client level. You should have everything going through the
server sent to a catchall account, and then a program that would pull the
messages and archive them in a database. (Or some other way to be sure you
get it all.) As well if you used IMAP then Sent mail could be in a folder on
the IMAP server, and then when the users use Webmail their mail could also
be stored in that same Sent mail folder. Then they have a consistant
location for their sent mail. With POP mail they have Sent folders on every
machine they use. How are you keeping track of every mail in every Sent
folder then? Seems like a flawed argument. If you feel POP is the only way
then stick with POP, but know that clients have much better features when
you pick IMAP... such as Syncing folders with the server so you could
organize your mail offline and then connect and it will make all your
changes on your server folders... such as one Sent folder... such as the
Public folder feature of IMAP that you could use for important company
templates and such...
