The name field is also stored in the user DB so we'll be giving access to
the first name and last name fields back when LDAP is not running.

Ok, thanks for the reply. I can see how it would be useful.
But to us (we don't need the extra info or to give access to it to our
users) there is really no benefit to using LDAP, and because of our large
user database it's pretty much certain we won't use it.

We don't need to be able to edit the user attributes. But we need to be
able to edit the first and last name, which with 8.10 and no LDAP are
greyed out.

Is the display greyed out in admin considered a bug that will get fixed
eventually, at least for the first name and last name fields?
