Evidently you, and several others who have made similar comments, haven't looked at mail-archive.com (if you need the link, take a look at the footer of every message in this list), where these messages are archived currently. You can follow threads, search the archive, etc.
I would agree that a new web forum would be a good thing ONLY IF all content is in both places (to avoid diluting the efficiency of either one, and allow users to use what suits them best) AND the new forum provides functional improvement of the existing mail-archive.com archive (there is much room for improvement there in both timeliness of messages reaching the archive and search functionality). Change for change's sake without improving functionality, and that risks decreasing the effectiveness of existing solutions, is just plain stupid.
