This working group has a deplorable history of saying "do what you want, we're not going to do any work to help you" then years later say "we want to tweak it now in ways that will break your installed base."I seem to remember opening my mouth about two years ago, being smacked, and closing it again.
In the case of THREAD=REFERENCES, it has has been over two years.
