More than 10 million children and adults attend more than 12,000 day and resident camps. Nearly every rural or urban EMS service has at least one day or resident camp in its service area. Knowledge of camp activities, on-site health care resources, and facility access will reduce response times and improve patient care. | |

Cardiac Arrest Interventions: Changes May Be in the Air
When CPR/AED does not work, EMS personnel usually assume the patient was down too long or had other medical problems-EMS does not often question the effectiveness of resuscitation methods. Changes in EMS protocols are precipitated by researchers who do question methods, and their inquiries into standard practice CPR techniques may result in significant changes to CPR/AED protocols in the very near future. | |

Like most everyone in EMS, I have mixed emotions every time I'm asked where I work. I'm proud of being a paramedic. I like to talk about my work and maybe educate the public while I'm at it. But while most people seem genuinely interested in hearing about my work, the attraction seems to stem mostly from a morbid fascination with tales of violence and bloodshed. Still others are immediately offended that they are talking to someone who actually gets blood under his fingernails for a living. | |
