FWIW, based on the audio in the avi posted at http://www.quicksfv.org/tinny1.avi, the "tinny audio" phenomenon sounds (literally) the same as the problem I documented in Ticket #20, "PVR-500 Volume Varies From Recording to Recording and Is Occasionally Clipped"
For my case, the problem started somewhere in around 0.3.3. but wasn't present in 0.4.0 which I'm still using.
