I was about (and commit it) just including the compiler in our jallib packages, as a default. That is, not providing more packages.
Do you want more packages (with and without compiler) ? If I understand correctly, you don't want to have the version in the directory's name which include "lib", "sample", etc... ? I strongly disagree with that :). Because when you download several versions, you don't know which one you have ! To do what you say, I use symlinks: "jallib" pointing to the one I want. If you also want to get rid of the version, you can simply rename it, can't you ? No base directory is... well... this is how zip are usually made, and I really, really don't like that, because when you unzip, it can polute all your current directory.
