Hi Robin, the next time that happens, instead of doing a hard shut down. Press Control+ALT+Delete, in a few seconds Jaws should speak, up arrow to shut down, press enter, down arrow to the restart, press enter. This is what I have done in the past to avoid a hard shut down. I hope this helps. Smiles.

It's happened to me twice in the past week using the most recent build of jfw 18 and Windows 10; and when it does none of the usual methods for resurrecting jfw work at all. further even if one can get NVDA or Narrator running while you have speech navigation is hampered to such a degree that even in the shut down menu you can't get cursor off shut down and onto restart no matter what you do. It is bad, very bad indeed. the only way out is a hard shutdown which I so loathe doing. I haven't been able to pin down a cause for what brings it about so I can't make it happen at will but when it happens as I said it is really not nice at all.
