Note that Jess 6 will run perfectly fine on JDK 1.3 if I adopt JDK
1.2.2 features; In general I'd make sure of that. But if I also adopt
features new with 1.3, I leave people stuck with 1.2.2 out in the
cold.
I've gotten about two dozen (!) responses to my question so far, and
the votes have been pretty consistent. I've gotten only one asking me
to keep 1.1 compatibility for 6.0, three advocating a move to 1.3, and
the balance saying that I should break 1.1 but keep 1.2
compatiblity. Since this goes along with my gut feeling on the
subject, that is what I am going to do (unless I hear a new and
overwhelming argument.)
