harv at 133 mhz you are dead right,  and most notebooks have less c p u power.

What you may not be aware of is that for the first time intel is going to have
real competition from the a m d k 7.

the reason for this is dec, has a server with a processor called alpha, that 
computer goes at 800 mhz.

compaque now owns dec and is selling the mother board design to a m d, their
design or bus is 3 times faster than intels p c i  bus with b x chip set.

a m d also has hired the guy that designed the alpha chip to design the k7.

so by next  summer when win n t 5 is released  this technology will make all
software synths work great.
assumeing intel also has to role out new stuff to match it.

plus the 100 mhz memory bus is going to jump to 133 mhz in that same time frame
while the i d e drives will 

jump from 33 mhz to 66 mhz.
   
translation i suspect moores law will not be true this year because the
doubleing of c p u power may increase faster.

hj is aware of this and realizes that  n t will roll out  at about the same
time.

still i realize that blind people  are not going to be able to afford  533 mhz
systems.

but 350 mhz systems will be the low end i suspect, plenty for software synths.
