you can get rid of the third pain and show the folders and messages, by
going to edit, down or up to preferences, press enter. Shift+tab, down
to window settings and choose your lay out. there is a set of radio
buttons there that choosing the top most one will cause you to get only
the two pains. messages and folder list. when you have the layout set
this way, as you advance through the messages, each message comes into
view. There are times when for some reason, the focus is lost but often,
refreshing the screen with ins+esc restores the view. also, a quick way
to re-establish focus on the message is to set the link tracking to
underlined with ctrl+shift+t and press tab. then, you can use the jaws
cursor to read the portion of the message that is visible in the window,
press space to bring up the next screen or message. A trick that is
also nice is that with underlined links being tracked, you can tab
through addresses and urls and if you are on an url, press enter and you
will be taken there. if you are on an address, pressing enter allows
you to create an addressbook entry for that address.
What I like about the browser is that you can use ins+tab on a page with
a form and it will take you to the first field and you have a lot of
control over how the pages are displayed that is easy to get to. There
are other aspects of the jfw interface with netscape that I don't use.
One thing I often do use though is the toggle between tracking links
with focus rectangles and underlined links. If links have embedded
images, the focus rectangle link tracking really helps. The thing that
bothers me though is that what is read is either a graphic number or an
url. It seems that even when alt tags are used, jfw does not read the
alt text. the focus rect setting is also good for getting to frames.
