Jeff:
What she is saying it is a picture taken of text, this is probably true but
no word processor will read it, it is also been my experience that you will
not do very well scanning the image.  I think you will do better getting the
original.

How about the text portion of those files?  According to the accademic
support people this is text, and she was wondering if I had any means of
converting to text?
