In addition to all the problems that Jeff Scott mentioned you may find, like I did, that a service station will advertise "alcohol free" fuel and even charge a higher price but still contain alcohol in considerable amounts. This was not a local second level supplier but a world recognized company, SHELL OIL CO.   I tested twice with the "water in the bottle" test and both samples contained alcohol in considerable quantity.  The tanks in 211LF, built 30 years ago, were with epoxy construction.  Personally, I'm surprised that any airport today would take the chance (liability) of even selling auto fuel at the airport given the concerns mentioned in this string of e-mails.

If you fly 50 hours a year, high for many KR flyers, and 100LL cost $2 a gallon more that auto fuel, (fuel burn of 5 gph) you spend $500 more a year to fly safely.  Is saving $500 worth the risk of rebuilding your fuel system or landing off airport?  Guess wrong and you may find the same site waiting at the hangar that Jeff did.
