Dave and all, Please excuse this rambling, but I *HAVE* to have my say.........
I could probably make a pretty good buck doing minor surgery.........there's not much to it, my overhead would be NOTHING compared to MD's, no insurance, no office, no help, etc. The licensing people might be a bit pissed but who cares?? Now I'm not ACTUALLY comparing myself to a medical doctor, BUT I did have to spend 8,000 hours as an apprentice/journeyman to satisfy my states licensing requirement.... even though I was an industrial arts major in college, did bench repair for Radio Shack for several years, and had over 10 years experience as a federally licensed broadcast engineer... for the "privilege" of installing phone equipment. I can also probably fix or diagnose a phone system problem in short order....'ya pay for what we know sometimes...not the time spent actually at the customers premises............you don't even want to KNOW how much it actually costs to "roll a truck" compared to how much we charge for a service call (which includes 1 hour of on site labor...$75.00)...... If you can buy it cheaper...and install and maintain it ...God bless 'ya....We were talking about the folks who "shop" for it and then expect someone to install it for next to nothing. FYI...the big boys who move millions of dollars of product pay a bit less for it than a smaller interconnect company does.......I just can't compete wit K Mart as far as pricing........but I *CAN* blow them out of the water with service!!!!....and that costs $$$ Just one 20 year veteran interconnect's opinion.
