Others milage may vary in this, but I have found that one key component
of getting a high Google PageRank with my websites is getting them
listed in the Open Directory Project [1]. In fact, I found this to be so critical that I eventually applied to become an editor, and for similar
reasons to those that you describe above, I ultimately became
responsible for the LDS category.

The problem is, there are far too many sites and categories for me to
keep up with, so there is a constant back-log of new sites to review.
Perhaps someone from your organization (or anyone on the list, for that matter) would be interested in joining the ODP, and helping me list good
LDS sites, which will increase their global net visibility.

Charles, that sounds like a good idea. I will sign up as an ODP editor. Our foundation is beginning to collect a database of LDS- related sites (good and bad) and categorize them as such, so I should be able to help pretty easily with this. We will, by the way, make some of the data public through an API or some other interface eventually.

Should I sign up to be an editor in this category, or would a more specific one be better?
