All true Eric, but, what do you think would happen if those guys didn't
voluntarily sign up for the forces?

The country needs armed forces and if nobody signed up voluntarily we would
have to have conscription / national service.

You, I and anyone else who does not want to serve in the forces needs those
guys to sign up. To say they reap what they sow is a little uncharitable.

What bothers me about poppies is that every single person you see on TV at
this time of year is wearing a poppy. You get the feeling that every TV
producer is saying to their presenters, 'here, you better wear this!'.

When you or I buy a poppy we are making a contribution to the good work the
British legion does. Are all these stars on TV actually making a personal
contribution for the poppy they are wearing? They should be, but I doubt it.

Did every single one of those highly pampered premiership stars who wore
poppies on their shirts this weekend make a personal contribution to the
poppy appeal? If they are wearing it they bloody well should have! But I
doubt it.

Si.

I never liked or adhered to social pressure myself, so I can relate to
what you are saying Rob.

Most armies today are professional (you pass a test and you re hired),
for those guys, like me and you, the universal law of nature states
you reap what you sow.

Prior to that kids/men were taken away by their govt. and sent to die.
Those I feel sorry for.
