Actually, when the splitnut is engaged, I don't notice the resistence so 
much, its seems more prevelant when trying to "freehand" without the 
splitnut engaged.

It says Z-axis, but it is clearly along what I would call the X-xis, or the 
length of the legacy.
 
I'll make sure to check the placement of the acme screw. Though I believe 
it may have been slighly bowed during tranport. It's not creating 
a functional problem, other than riding against each other.
