Sorry Ralf, for some reason Outlook shoved the two file names together. It
should have read:

ms00175 - SMITH, John (1884-1919) baptism registration [RIN9].tif

ms00200 - SMITH, John (1884-1919), DOE, Jane (1886-1930) marriage
registration [RIN9], [RIN43].tif

Apparently not my night!

Rob

Subject: RE: [LegacyUG] Sort Number Portion Numerically?

Hi Ralf:

My naming system is pretty simple (too simple apparently - OW!). But a "new
and improved" example of a file description is below:

ms00175 - SMITH, John (1884-1919) baptism registration [RIN9].tif ms00200 -
SMITH, John (1884-1919), DOE, Jane (1886-1930) marriage registration [RIN9],
[RIN43].tif

I wanted something descriptive (name, lifespan, and document type), that
contained the Master Source ID#, and the person's RIN# all for searching. I
put the RIN# in square brackets so I could (for example) search for [RIN9]
and only get that person's files, not [RIN99], [RIN999] etc. The new and
improved "ms00175" will make searching by ID# more smooth.

Like I said it is pretty simple, but I don't know if it will work for your
MRIN filing system.

Hopefully someone else will reply to your query.

Thanks,

Rob

Rob:

Sorry I don't know the answer, but I am curious what other information you
include in the file name. I am just starting to file my documents using the
MRIN system, and need to come up with a good electronic file naming system.
