Missy, Just to add to Jim's comments, RINs and MRINs aren't as "random" as you think. They're assigned in sequential order as you enter individuals and marriages in the program.
The first import you did most likely retained the RINs and MRINs that were in the original file, possibly filling in any blanks that were left if you had deleted individuals or marriages in FTM. The second import obviously couldn't duplicate those numbers so if there was a conflict, new numbers were assigned to the individuals and marriages as the file was being imported. The numbers for the existing file remained as they were. That's another reason why relying on RINs and MRINs can cause problems and for "permanent" numbers, those should be entered in the User ID field for the individuals and marriages - although I don't know if other programs have that option. You will have to do it one RIN at a time. (To renumber RINs, click on Tools on the menu bar and select Renumber RINs.) I imported two seperate files from two FTM files and they are now in Legacy. The problem is, the RIN numbers are sort of scattered all around. I would expect my closest relatives to have the lowest number RIN (direct line) but they don't necessarily have the RINs I think they should have....
