There is a reason I put the mother in, instead of the father. That reason is
called old age. :) There are times when I don't necessarily think things
through before doing them. But it makes sense to put the father in as Mr.
Schommer. It can always be changed if something unexpected turns up.
I have strong reasons to believe that Nicolaus Schommer is a brother to Maria
and Susanna, but I have no hard proof. So he is left out for now, but he is
mentioned in other areas why I think he is a brother. Since I haven't added him
yet, I guess I haven't completely lost it yet, although I'm working on it. ;)
Thanks for the replies. They make a lot of sense.

I have been watching all this and wondering why the surname does not just get
placed in the male parents position and then add the child?
Is there some problem that this sets up further down the line that I am not
visualizing? Is it that the father may not be the surname carrier? Without a
first name and without a source the data should be suspect and there fore
equivalent to "unknown" or other place fillers.
Ian I live in my own little world, but it's OK. Everyone knows me here.

In a past existence (Legacy 7.5) it was possible, with a parent-less person on
show in the Family tab, to double-click on the empty parents and have the
program 'create' blank parents. You could then add a sibling to the original,
parent-less person. No parents were actually created. This no longer seems to
work under version 8.0
