Mike,

If we only knew the future.

My Family File originally wasn't created correctly - partly due to a program
that I used previously which didn't encourage good citation formats, let
alone *allow* a good format, along with other data entry and partly because
I didn't *know* good techniques at the time - and when I started, I had no
concept of posting genealogy to web pages because at the time it just wasn't
done (oh, oh, there I go showing my age <rbg>), so I would say proper file
naming techniques, proper data entering techniques, etc shouldn't be just
reserved for those who think they may do something in the future but should
be followed by *all* of us so we won't have to spend *hours* going back
redoing what we did wrong in the beginning <rbg>

We have no idea what technology will bring us or who we might want to share
our data with in the future. Better to follow standard protocols the first
time around, eh?

Thanks for using Legacy.

Subject: Re: [LegacyUG] Photo storage (Was: Sharing Multimedia Files....)

Sherry,

Thanks for the clarification. The caution is really for users who plan on
creating web pages, and not for Legacy users in general. And it isn't really
about pictures in particular either, but about the names of any files &
folders that you may want to copy (with the same names) to a (Unix) web
server. And there's no problem with using "My Documents" or "My Pictures" as
part of the Legacy path to your data or pictures, but you should put all
your data to be transferred in subfolders & files whose names use
underscores instead of spaces. That's what I thought.
