Well that's what I was hoping could happen as it does with some other programs creating webpages and Lo and Behold it already does as so often happens when we come up with a wish. I know very little about the web page generation of Legacy as I haven't played with it much.

Sherry,

I have been following this thread with interest since I had, long ago, chosen to name my picture files using spaces (i.e. "My Son 1992 High School Graduation.jpg"). Since I have over 700 pictures linked to my Legacy database (individuals, events, marriages, locations, sources, etc.) I dreaded the possibility of having to go back and rename and re-link all those pictures to ensure Unix compatibility.

While looking at the web pages automatically created by Legacy I looked into the "C:\Legacy\web\project name\pictures" directory (substitute 'project name' for your project name). This is the directory that is created during the web page generation by Legacy and all the pictures used for the web pages are copied and stored there. Lo and behold, I found that the pictures names in that directory all conform to the Unix practice of no spaces, and even where converted to lower case!! So, for the picture name stated above, it was renamed automatically to "my_son_1992_high_school_graduation.jpg". All of this took place automatically - all I did was to tell Legacy to create the web pages. Additionally, the HTML coding used for the pages reflects this new file naming, so everything appears and links correctly.

This obviously surprised my given the fact that this entire thread centers around the advisability of using no spaces in file names to ensure Unix compatibility - yet Legacy appears to be changing the files names (which, by the way, is not a bad thing since the corresponding HTML code is also changed appropriately) automatically. Did I just misunderstand the messages in this thread or is there really no need to worry about how we name our multimedia files since Legacy takes care of it for us??

Thanks,

Bob
