Jon,

Here is some more oddities. My son was born and lived in California. Never 
set foot in Michigan yet his SS first 3 digits are Michigan 374

The town, state in the SS Death Index is not necessarily where the person 
died. Rochester, Oakland County, Michigan had their ZIP code changed. The 
people that had last residence in Rochester now have last residence in St 
Clair County Michigan.

Residence at time of death (this is really the address of record, but not 
necessarily where they lived or died). My father in law that died in Merced 
County California has the last residence Pierce County, Washington. He never 
ever was in the state of Washington. They used our address as my husband was 
his father's conservator.
