Geoff,

I have had a few instances of this and just record it as an alt. marriage event and then give more explanation in the event note. I would not wish to add a second instance of the same person.

I see this not very different from a situation with one fellow who was buried 3 times over a 25 year period. Once, just after death; another time when the graveyard was moved; and a third time when his widow moved and wanted him close to her.

Maybe this should be a re-burial event but I wanted to document his last resting place as the burial place and date.

Of course, these events require sentence overrides and the works so they come out pretty in the reports.

In the article entitled "How to record subsequent marriages" at

gave an explanation to Rene's question. However, it appears that I didn't
read the question correctly, as the phrasing of the question was a bit
ambiguous, as Peter stated in one of the comments.

So, here's my question to the list. If a couple married, divorced, and then
remarried to each other later in life, how do you record this? I can see
recording this in one of two ways:

1) In the marriage information screen, create a new event with the name of
"Remarriage", then fill in the details.
2) Add a new spouse to the husband, but link him to the same women, thus
creating two marriages, two family group records, and two MRINs. This might
be the way to go, especially if the couple had additional children during
their second marriage.

What are your thoughts?

Thanks,

Geoff Rasmussen
