Hi Geoff, (I am using Legacy Deluxe v.5.) I have this case with my brother. He has three marriages to two women. I entered his last two marriages, linking him to the same woman. The report always came out pretty ugly. But then after I read your question, it made me go back to the Marriage entry for the third marriage. I changed the wording from "married" to "remarried" and now I am much happier with the result in the reports.
One thing I noticed, however, is that I can status the change (divorce) with the actual date, but I can't put the status location in. He was married to the first wife in one place, and divorced in a second. Shouldn't that be an optional entry, too, just like the date? I coud do a marriage fact, but I didn't like how it duplicated the date. And can you explain what the difference in the two statuses of Divorce and Divorced are? The wording doesn't change in my two book reports -- descendants narrative and descendants. "The marriage ended in Divorce." And why is that capitalized? And why is there no marriage status in Family Group Record? You do see the status in the Individual Report. Thanks for asking the question. In the article entitled "How to record subsequent marriages" at http://legacynews.typepad.com/legacy_news/2006/04/subsequent_rema.html, I gave an explanation to Rene's question. However, it appears that I didn't read the question correctly, as the phrasing of the question was a bit ambiguous, as Peter stated in one of the comments. So, here's my question to the list. If a couple married, divorced, and then remarried to each other later in life, how do you record this? I can see recording this in one of two ways: 1) In the marriage information screen, create a new event with the name of "Remarriage", then fill in the details. 2) Add a new spouse to the husband, but link him to the same women, thus creating two marriages, two family group records, and two MRINs. This might be the way to go, especially if the couple had additional children during their second marriage. What are your thoughts? Thanks, Geoff Rasmussen Millennia Corporation
