I keep my genealogy information in a set of FOLDERS (not directories) by
surname, then by couples with that surname.  So using Connie's idea, within
each surname folder, I will also have a folder for land records, military,
photos etc., as needed, or am I already missing something

Hi Diane,

Let me expand on my original post just a bit... 

As you will note I have all files by their 'group' headings and then divided
by surname... rather than by surname and then divided by group. 

Not sure if one way is better or not, but this way works much better for
me...
