I use a Compaq iPAQ 3970 which replaced a Compaq iPAQ 3870 which
replaced a Compaq iPAQ 3635. I also have a HP iPAQ 2210 but prefer
using the 3970---larger screen. 2210 accepts both SD and CF storage
cards, 3970 only SD. Need big cards for backup purposes.

I use a Stowaway folding keyboard with both PDAs. Stowaway
keyboard is brilliant, because it has full size keys and superb touch
but latest versions with Bluetooth (radio) connection better--so make
sure your PDA has Bluetooth.

I have used Pocket Genealogist Advanced since version 2 first appeared.
This is Pocket PC ONLY, so cannot use Palm operating system.

I currently load four Legacy family files totalling about 4,400 individuals,
taking roughly 5.6 Mb of space. I download everything--sources and all,
but no images--only text. And I sync it with my Legacy files.

The 3970 has 64 Mb of RAM user memory. I would not consider a
Windows Mobile PDA with less than 64 Mb of user memory. (This does
NOT include storage cards or ROM memory--ROM stores the operating
system.) You need a minimum 128 Mb storage card to go with this
for backups, but if you wish to store photos then go for the biggest
size (e.g. 1 Gb) you can afford.
