I have my dasda in 3 partitions. dasda1 is /boot dasda2 is / and dasda3 is LVM for everything else. This was done with SLES10 SP1 so you should be able to do it too. (Note we have standardized on Mod 9s for the volume sizes and each server gets as a default 2 Mod 9's ).
