Hi, I use diald, IP Masquerading and have a dynamic IP address.
I almost never lose packets when bringing up a link, so, here's my config.
:-)

==========================================
/etc/diald.conf
==========================================
restrict 07:50:00 18:05:00 1-5 * *
down
restrict * * * * *
mode ppp
#debug
connect "/usr/sbin/chat -f /etc/ppp/pppscript"
device /dev/ttyS1
speed 115200
modem
lock
crtscts
dynamic
local 192.168.0.1
remote 192.168.0.2
defaultroute
include /usr/lib/diald/standard.filter

==========================================

==========================================
/etc/ppp/pppscript
==========================================
TIMEOUT 60
ABORT ERROR
ABORT BUSY
ABORT "NO CARRIER"
ABORT "NO DIALTONE"
"" "AT&FH0S95=46"
OK "atdt**********" (replace with ISP phone number)
TIMEOUT 75
CONNECT ''

==========================================

Other files:
I have not modified /usr/lib/diald/standard.filter from the install.
In my /etc/rc.d/ startup files I have set:
echo 1 > /proc/sys/net/ipv4/ip_forward
echo 5 > /proc/sys/net/ipv4/ip_dynaddr (I think this rewrites addresses of
"lost" packets).

Program versions:
Slackware 7
Kernel 2.2.13
Diald (I don't know what version, -V doesn't do anything, how can I tell?)
Pppd 2.3.10

Other stuff:
I use a DNS server locally on the box that does masquerading.
All the other boxes that masquerade have my DNS server address specified 3
times.
I masquerade from a Linux box, a NT box and a 98 box, all work fine.

That's about it I think, please mail me with any more questions,
