 Hmm....  well, after installing Slackware 4, the LILO gave a choice, it never 
automatically loaded any OS. It just sits there until you enter either Linux or 
DOS.

 I changed the lilo.conf file to have either "1" or "2". "1"  being Windows... I 
did that because I also have hardware profiles "1 Home" and "2 LAN" (Home 
in Win98 has NIC disabled for faster boot).

 I'm sure that now you have more experience, changing the lilo.conf, running 
/sbin/lilo, and then having a menu instead of autoloading OS.. LILO is easier 
than a boot disk :o)
