It could possibly do so, yes. It depends on how you create your partitions.

It depends on your current hardware setup. If you currently have only one
partition with Windows installed, you will need to make sure Windows knows
you have changed the partition information.
Partition Magic should work, also fips I believe.
Once you have Windows figuring out that it has less space than it did
before, and it doesn't try accessing that space (ie Windows knows there is
new hdd space, but isn't partitioned, it will ignore them), then you should be
able to install a dual-boot.
I would have to recommend though, buying a 2nd hdd and getting it
installed. Even a small one today, wouldn't cost the earth, and saves many
many hassles ;o)
