Thinking about it a bit more, you are right that if he "just did it" it would 
be quicker (but he would not know what he did)

Alan, just for your info..
echo noauth >> /etc/ppp/options

means put a line with noauth
into the file /etc/ppp/options

Unix can be quite simple sometimes, especially if you get a grasp of some 
commands.
