Yeah. Start Knoppix on a machine, set root password, give it to me and
start sshd, and I can install Gentoo on it from anywhere I like
(except if I manage to build a non-running kernel again). Not that I
will, though, I'd have to like you _very_ much to do that for you ;)
For some time, this kind of thing has been pretty much particular to
Gentoo, but if I'm not mistaken there's a Debian installer CD that
works in a similar fashion. Which is very nice.
