Like I said before, VMWare doesnt care about what type of connection you 
have on your host computer. As long as it shows as a network interface under 
windows with a proper TCP/IP stack, VMWare will be able to piggyback the 
stack and let your Linux guest connect to the internet through that 
interface.

As far as your Linux guest is concerned, VMWare will ALWAYS emulate an 
ethernet interface. You could have a 10gbps fiber optic connection, and as 
far as a VMWare guest is concerned it will see an ethernet interface. 
Period.
