Jacksonville is very commonly known as Jax far outside the area and
those in the know. Simply because our Airport known as JAX, and they
even call it JAX Airport, not Jacksonville Airport. Many refer to
Atlanta as the ATL, same deal there. Much less with things like
JaxPort ;)

If your in college at a University in a computer science class and don't
know the acronym LUG. You really need to check yourself and education
level. Much less combining the two, JaxLUG, really is not rocket science
or that cryptic. Not to mention if your in Jacksonville physically and
don't know Jax means Jacksonville, not sure how to help them, but they
need it :)

That said I recall telling many the URL and name of the LUG, and they
are like Homer Simpson, duh... So for some reason it not on the top of
the mind.

Things are easily found if your looking for it. But this area is not
known for its tech culture, thus I do not expect many to be flocking to
such things. That said even when I have attended LUG meetings in San
Francisco, during Linux World with tons of people in town and otherwise
for such. LUG meetings are typically not record settings. In some areas
User Group meetings are quite big, but not in all.

Those areas they are quite big in, also have thriving tech industries,
and this is just not that area. At least not yet ;)

Following others trends and stuff won't help the JaxLUG. Being creative
and innovative doing things our own way for others to follow. That is
the way to get things to change in the area.

It could also be that Linux is just not cool anymore. No more than the
refrigerator is cool. But at one point the fridge was a cool thing, and
these days its just one of many technologies we depend on, and no longer
see as cool.
