Hello log4cxx community, here's another one against the Attic. :-)
log4cxx is used and needed even though the community is not very large. Actually, the community has never has been very large, and this hasn't been a problem before, when only Curt Arnold maintained the project. Including log4cxx into another ASF project (like Trafodion) as suggested before, doesn't sound very reasonable in case there's more than one project using log4cxx in the world. And there is. :-) As long as log4cxx is working well (and it is in our project), I don't see any need for frequent releases. It's probably good to have a new release once in a while just to show, that the project's still active. If a project seems to be dead, it probably won't attract any new users. So, what do we have to do to keep log4cxx alive? There are probably two important on our agenda: 1. Keep log4cxx out of the Attic (short term) 2. Release a new version (long term) I am not familiar with the Apache requirements for a project. From what I understand, there have to be reports filed every three month. What else? How can we proceed with the limited resources, we have? Just my two cents, Torsten -----Ursprüngliche Nachricht----- Von: Thorsten Schöning [mailto:tschoen...@am-soft.de] Gesendet: Donnerstag, 7. According to the logs, the former maintainer Curt Arnold didn't release for years as well after the project moved to Apache and nevertheless provided the majority of work on it and made users happy. Let's agree that we disagree and we have two votes for the Attic right now. :-/ Mit freundlichen Grüßen, Thorsten Schöning -- Thorsten Schöning E-Mail: thorsten.schoen...@am-soft.de AM-SoFT IT-Systeme http://www.AM-SoFT.de/ Telefon...........05151- 9468- 55 Fax...............05151- 9468- 88 Mobil..............0178-8 9468- 04 AM-SoFT GmbH IT-Systeme, Brandenburger Str. 7c, 31789 Hameln AG Hannover HRB 207 694 - Geschäftsführer: Andreas Muchow
