database every time.

an MySQL insert is so quick it is not worth worrying about .. compared to
the rest of the process time involved in an Apache/HTTPS exchange its
irrelevant . 

and DBs are jsut as easy to backup as plain file .. mysqldump -u blah etc
> backupfile.db 

moreover the information is there in a db for when you need it for 'show
me my previous purchses' etc
