You can't use a laptop as a dumb terminal, at least not easily, because PCMCIA cards 
don't have bootable rom images. 

The easiest way would be to run a windows based X server and connect to your Linux box 
that way. I use Exceed and find it very good, I've no idea how much it costs as work 
got it for me. I'm sure I've seen free ones mentioned out there on the Internet. Also 
that way you can get to your windows programs without having to re-boot.
