By landline, I was referring to the old POTS, not coax cable.

Not at all true, I could connect no better than 26.4 via dial up and
cable came to my road, cows were thrilled with the channel selection
and I was thrilled with the highspeed internet.

You would have to define expensive. While installation may be a tad
pricey, line of site and satellite have "reasonable" monthly fees in
a lot of areas, and the number of areas is growing by leaps and
bounds.
Guess we better define wireless while we are at it :-)
