Well, once you get the JetDirect, you need to plug in the power, a printer (to port one if it's a 3 port) and an active Ethernet connection. Then you hit the Test button and the printer will print two pages showing the current configuration of the server. The easiest way to set one up is to reset to defaults by holding the Test button while plugging in the power. This enables DHCP so the server will set itself to an IP in the range the rest of your network is using. Then you print the config pages and telnet to the current IP of the server. I always set an IP and turn off DHCP on the JetDirect because if/when it decides to have a different IP your printer mapping on the computers can go wonky. With a fixed IP on the print server, it won't. Next thing to do after you have the server settings set, install the firmware update app and let it find the JetDirect, download the latest firmware from HP and flash the server. Don't be concerned if it says there was an error. I've done a few of these and every time it said there was an error but there really wasn't. Running the updater again showed the servers had the latest firmware version installed. ===== Say hello to Juror #49. Yep, I'm on jury duty until the end of March. Gotta call in each weekend.
